Methodology of the market statistics
Advertised prices, not sale prices
Every figure is based on the asking price in public online ads for used cars. The price a car is finally sold for is usually lower and is not known to us. Read the numbers as "what sellers ask", not "what buyers pay".
Sources
We collect data from public car advertisement websites in Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, where their terms and technical rules allow it. We collect only what statistics need: make, model, year, mileage, fuel, price and a coarse location. We do not store photos, descriptions or seller contact data.
Individual ads are never shown
We publish aggregates only. You will not find a single ad, a link to an ad, a photo or a seller on this site. If you want to see ads, visit the advertisement websites.
Medians and ranges
We use the median (the middle value) because it is not distorted by a few very cheap or very expensive ads. The range shows the 25th to the 75th percentile: half of all ads are priced inside it. Prices in other currencies are converted to euro at a stored exchange rate.
Minimum sample
A figure is published only when enough priced ads stand behind it. Below that minimum nothing is shown, and the page says that we are still collecting data. We do not publish how many ads stand behind a figure; we publish the figure only when the rule is met, and a reliability label shows how firm it is.
Comparing your price with the market
The check before you buy and the fair-price tool compare a price with a band of similar asking prices from the last 90 days. The band needs at least 5 ads from at least 3 different sellers, each car is counted once, extreme prices are left out first, and the bar shows the 25th to the 75th percentile. We say only that a price is below, within or above that range, never that it is good or bad. If the data is not enough, we say so and show no number.
How common a model is
Instead of numbers of ads we show a word: very common, common, less common or rare. It says how widely a make, model or generation is advertised compared with the others in the same list. It is a ranking inside the list, not an absolute number, and one car can be advertised more than once, so it describes ads, not cars.
Update schedule
Statistics are calculated per calendar month from the ads that were active, and updated regularly. The month is shown on each page.
Limitations
- Not all cars are advertised online, and not all advertised cars are in our data.
- Asking prices depend on condition, equipment and negotiation, which the ads do not describe fully.
- Some ads contain mistakes or are unrealistic; we filter obvious errors but cannot catch all of them.
- Make and model are matched automatically and can be wrong in rare cases.
The statistics are informational, are not a valuation or an offer, and are not financial advice.
