Towing without being overcharged
Towing without being overcharged
Fake roadside helpers who copy ADAC branding operate in Hungary, Poland, Serbia and Croatia. They wait at rest stops, offer help, tow cars to poor workshops and demand cash or high bills. Call your own club first (ADAC +49 89 22 22 22; OAMTC +43 1 25 120 00), keep the car locked and do not let anyone tow it before confirming by phone. If the call fails, move a few metres away and call from there.

After an accident
- Stop, switch on the hazard lights and put on a high-visibility vest before you leave the vehicle.
- Warn other traffic with the warning triangle, at the distance the local rules require.
- Check for injured people. If anyone is hurt, call the emergency number and give your position.
- Take photos before vehicles are moved, if it is safe. Move them only when they block traffic or the police tell you to.
- Exchange names, addresses, number plates and insurance details with the other drivers. Note witnesses.
- Do not sign a statement you do not understand or cannot read. Fill in the accident report together if you agree on what happened.
- Tell your insurer or assistance service as soon as you can, and keep every document and receipt.
